2025 Team Previews / Rosters

The Augusta Athletics baseball organization announced today they are entering their third season with renewed optimism and higher aspirations, retaining a strong core of veteran players (Cody & JJ Breaker, Logan Brown, Cole Stensen, Brennan King, Nolan Taylor, Jacob & Aiden Rosemeyer) who have been with the team since its inception.

After two formative seasons establishing their presence in the league, the Athletics have focused on continuity and growth, keeping key talent while incorporating valuable lessons learned during their developmental years.

“What makes this season special is the chemistry we’ve built over the past two years,” said Manager Byron King, who is entering his third season with the club. “Our returning players bring not just talent, but a deep understanding of our system and each other’s playing styles.”

The A’s emphasized that roster stability was a priority during the offseason, allowing the team to focus on refinement rather than rebuilding. Several players who have been with the organization since day one will return to anchor both the batting lineup (JJ Breaker, Logan Brown) and pitching rotation (Chris Komanec, JJ Breaker). The A’s are also welcoming a couple players from the EC Riverman, who folded this off season.

The A’s will continue to play on Jan Krueger Diamond at Memorial Field in Augusta and we look forward to seeing everyone at the field this summer!

2024 was a memorable year for the Red Sox. Cadott swept their WBA Regional and made it to the Final 8 for the first time in over 40 years. The eventual State Champion River Falls Fighting Fish knocked the Sox out of the playoffs. Cadott finished 10-10 (18-11 overall) in the always tough CRBL.

In 2025 the Red Sox look to take another step forward. They return the majority of their guys from last season and have a couple exciting new players joining the squad. Expectations are high!

Offensively the Sox hit .309 last year and led the CRBL with 14 home runs. On the infield Cadott will be led by All CRBL second baseman Jack Kein (.327, 18 h, 19 runs, 4 dbl, 20 bb, 5 hbp). Versatile 3-time All Star Chad Kron (.341, 19 r, 3 hr) is set to play a corner infield spot. Slick fielding Carter Hesselman (.308 14 rbi) returns as the team’s shortstop. All Star catcher and team leader Jonah Hanson (3 hr, 13 rbis, 15 bb) will be behind the plate again this season. Rookie Cole Perlberg, Sam Feck, Axel Tegels and Conor O’Reilly will be counted on heavily by Cadott this year as well.

In the outfield All Star and Gold Glove winner Luke Erickson will be roaming centerfield again. Erickson led the team with a .429 batting average. Logan Burzynski (.300, 3 hr) will be back in left field. Erickson and Burzynski each tied for team lead in hits (21) and rbis (15) in 2024. Allstar Jack Redwine (.308, 18 h, 13 rbi) returns to right field for the Sox as well. After a year away Tony Riley will be back with the Sox to provide some veteran leadership and add to the outfield depth.

On the mound All CRBL pitcher Zack Thiesse (2.39 era, 64 k) will be back leading the staff once again. Thiesse was a workhorse for the Sox in 2024, he led the CRBL in wins (8) and innings pitched (82.2). Gio Basile is poised for a breakout season. Down the stretch Basile was tough. He picked up a save and a win in the WBA playoffs last season. Cadott hopes to get some innings from Warren Bowe, Cole Bakkum, Alex Schmidt, and Henry Wilkinson in 2025 as well. Newcomers Christian Schaller, Tyler Iverson, Jack Gabler, and Ryan Zimmerman will add to an already impressive pitching staff.

The field in Cadott is undergoing a major renovation this offseason. We are excited to announce we will have lights, a new scoreboard, and a concession stand/media booth by opening day this season. These new amenities will allow us to have night baseball in Cadott and will give the fans a much better viewing experience! We would like to thank all of our fans and sponsors for their support and donations throughout the years. This support is why we are able to have the Red Sox in Cadott.

And a special thank you to T&J Concrete, Bowe Trucking & Excavating, Rick’s Halfway Bar, the Cadott Lions Club, and Whispering Pines Golf Course for the added work and donations for all of the field upgrades.

ROSTER: Cole Bakkum, Gio Basile, Bennett Bowe, Warren Bowe, Logan Burzynski, Luke Erickson, Sam Feck, Jack Gabler, Jonah Hanson, Carter Hesselman, Tyler Iverson, Jack Kein, Chad Kron, Zac Merritt, Conor O’Reilly, Jalen Pascal, Cole Perlberg, Peyton Platter, Jack Redwine, Tony Riley, Christian Schaller, Alex Schmidt, Axel Tegels, Zack Thiesse, Henry Wilkinson, Ryan Zimmerman

The 2025 version of the Chippewa Falls LumberJacks will be looking to continue their successful tradition in the CRBL. In the past five years the Jacks have played in two CRBL playoffs including a runner up finish in 2021, five straight WBA appearances including qualifying for State in 2024. There were many team and individual highlights in 2024 for the Jacks. Appearing in the All Star game was starter CJ Varsho (CF) as well as Jake Varsho (SS), Tyson Lucas (P), Dawson Rice (P), and Blake Trippler (OF) as substitutes. All of them made significant contributions during the game for the North. Three LumberJacks were honored at the end of the CRBL season with All League awards and they were CJ Varsho (OF & Gold Glove), Tyson Lucas (P), and Jake Varsho (Honorable Mention SS). The Jacks would like to thank all of our sponsors, fans, media, and support staff for all of their efforts in keeping amateur baseball alive and well in Chippewa Falls. The Eau Claire Cavaliers is an amateur baseball team that started in 1971. The 2025 baseball season will see the Eau Claire Cavaliers starting their 8th season as members of the Chippewa River Baseball League.

The Sturgeons’ hopes of improving on an 8-12 finish in 2023 took an early hit when ace pitcher Will Jacobson missed the early part of the season with arm problems. That Jim Falls succeeded in matching that mark was a testament to a team effort and the nimble juggling of manager Peter Thaler whose own injury left him somewhat less than nimble.

For one thing, the offense continued to improve as the team batting average soared to a lofty .310 with six .300+ hitters logging significant playing time. Rookie-of-the-Year candidate and CRBL Honorable Mention winner Jace Cota led in average at .429 (18-42 with 14 R, 10 RBI, 10 BB, and a 1.095 OPS while leading the team in triples and stolen bases). Close behind was All-CRBL shortstop Mason Tester (.418, 23-55, 16 R, 18 RBI, and 12 BB). Other leading hitters included Jackson Gugel (.405, 15-37, 10 R, 6 RBI, and 9 BB), AJ Schemenauer (.355, 22-62, 10 R, a team-leading 21 RBI, and 2 HR), Carter Stelter (.313, 10-32), and Bob Maurer (.310, 9-29).

The team’s gloves flashed with more gems than the crown jewels with the above named players supported by five defensive standouts who made their own contributions at the plate. Colton Turner nailed down a gold-glove citation at first base while hitting .277. Bobby Soran proved to be human with the bat (.298 with 15 RBI), as did Tristin Hable (.261, 12 R) as they anchored catcher and center field. Meanwhile, Jake Eslinger (.244, 10 RBI) and Evan Dennis (9 R) admirable manned third base and right field.

On the mound, Jacobson’s midseason comeback led to his leading the team with 45.2 innings while going 3-3 with 16 strikeouts and a 3.07 ERA. Schemenauer picked up much of the slack with a 3-2 mark in 29 IP with 15 K and a 4.83 ERA. In limited roles, Trevor Bowe was 1-0 at 2.33, and Gugel logged a 4.94 ERA. Finally, we can’t forget the contribution of Mike Maurer who, sadly, will be leaving us after graduation and joining the ranks of the employed. Mike’s 6.38 ERA was inflated by two outing he entered in the midst of opponents in mad feeding frenzies. Outside of these two games, his hurling dazzled, and he tossed the team’s lone shutout of the year.

Despite the somewhat disappointing record, the Sturgeons gained the WBA tournament and bested Holmen 8-7 in a thriller in the opener before bowing out the next day.

And no review of the 2024 season would be complete without the mention of our hosting of the All-Star game. The team would like to thank all the fans, volunteer workers, the Town of Anson, and all the teams of the CRBL who helped make it a wonderful success. Not to mention the rain clouds that graciously held off until the game was completed.

With a few comebacks, the lack of the distraction of hosting the All-Star game, and Thaler’s resolution to give up hip bumping, the Sturgeons look forward to a great 2025.

Welcome one and all to Sturgeon Stadium at Grudem Field.

ROSTER: Jace Cota, Jackson Gugel, Mason Tester, AJ Schemenauer, Bobby Soran, Jake Eslinger, Carter Stelter, Colton Turner, Evan Dennis, Noah Duex, Tristin Hable, Ben Westaby, Will Jacobson, Bob Maurer, Jonah Mueller, Karson Bowe, Pete Thaler, James Davis

After a breakthrough 2022 season, the Sturgeons took a step back in ’23 but still made the WBA tournament for the second consecutive year. One setback was the loss for most of the season of 2022 pitching ace and CRBL Rookie of the Year Will Jacobson. His stint on the DL did open the door for the emergence of AJ Schemenauer whose breakout year led to a 4.36 ERA over 41.1 innings. With Jacobson, who returned late to hurl 21.2 innings at a 3.74 clip, Jim Falls has a solid one two punch at the top of the rotation with several others waiting to show their stuff.

The Sturgeons also bring back some offense after finishing third in the league in team average at .306. Led by All-CRBL catcher Bobby Soran (.469, 3 HR, 13 RBI), the team backed him up with strong seasons by Honorable Mention winner Schemenauer (.400, 2 HR, 7 2B, 18 RBI), and Tristin Hable (.313, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 21 R). Jake Eslinger earned his first all-star appearance with a .271 average and 10 RBI. Meanwhile, all-star Bob Maurer and Mason Tester flirted with .300. Although the team loses some top players to the transfer portal and the ever-present job market, hopes are that the farm system will continue to produce–watch for new names among 2024 stars.

Excitement continues to grow in the Sturgeons’ pond over the coming of the CRBL All-Star Game to Sturgeon Stadium at Grudem Field this July 7. As plans go forward for expanded seating, parking, and all manner of creature comforts, the team and its fans anticipate a great celebration of hometown baseball.

Finally, the Sturgeons mourn the passing of two stalwarts from the ’60s who also faithfully led squads in Old Timers’ games over the years: Dick Hinke and Albert “Albie J” Witkus. So long, old friends.

ROSTER: Joe Blum, Tristin Hable, Nick Pitsch, Trevor Bowe, Will Jacobson, AJ Schemenauer, Liam Brennem, Raven Keyeski, Bryce Sykora, Evan Dennis, Wyatt Keyeski, Beau Snyder, Caleb Elkins, Isaac Lindstrom Bobby Soran, Jake Eslinger, Bob Maurer, Austin Sykora, Jackson Gugel, Curtis Neskar, Mason Tester

MANAGER: Pete Thaler

Your 2024 WBA runner-up Tilden Tigers are back again for their 60th season in the CRBL. Coming off a valiant effort for gold last season, the Tigers look to redeem themselves in 2025. The Tigers look to keep up their hitting ways again in 2025 with the core of Steinmetz’s, (Drew, Jordan, Lucas, and Ben) all putting up stellar years last season, Cole Zwiefelhofer, coming off an All CRBL Team nod, and Nolan Baier, tied for the most home runs in the league last year locking up the hot corner. The Tigers will also have a masterful pitching staff led by PJ and Jake Lequia, who threw a combined 72.3 innings last year to a tune of a 7-0 record. Backed up by Stephen Scatassa, Cam Hazelton, and Brendan Bresina, the Tigers look to maintain their prowess on the rubber. Therefore, the Tilden Tigers look forward to having another successful and fulfilling season out on the diamond. 2024 Team Previews / Rosters

The Augusta Athletics are gearing up for the 2024 season after bringing the team back to the CRBL in 2023. In their first season back, the Athletics were competitive and the team built a solid fan base and family-friendly entertainment option during the summer months. Additionally, teams were highly complimentary about the improvements and renovations at Jan Krueger Memorial Field.

With spring training set to start very soon, the Athletics look poised to improve in 2024. The team has brought in several new players to complement returning stars like infielder Jacob Rosemeyer, pitcher JJ Breaker, outfielder Brice Shimon and outfielder Logan Brown. “We learned a lot in our first season, and now have higher expectations,” said manager Duane Ives. “Our young core group of players gained valuable experience which I think will translate to
even better performance on the field this year and a spot in the WBA tournament.”

THANK YOU to our growing list of sponsors and supporters, we’re extremely grateful for all the support we received last year and already this year. Come out and join us from some A’s baseball at the newly renovated Jan Krueger Memorial Field!

The 2023 Red Sox brought baseball excitement back to Cadott. The team came together to finish 10-10 in the CRBL (19-12 overall) and make the WBA Playoffs for the first time since 1985! The Sox finished 1-1 in WBA play losing to the River Falls Fighting Fish and beating the Glidden Orioles.

The 2024 Sox will look to build on what they accomplished last season. Fifteen players return from last year’s squad. They were also able to add four or five new faces to fill out their roster.

Pitching was a strength last season for the Red Sox. Rookie of the Year Henry Wilkinson will once again anchor the rotation. The big righty went 6-1 with a 1.77 ERA and had 63 strikeouts. Allstar Zack Thiesse, who led the team in innings pitched (56 1/3) is poised to be busy again. Second year lefty Warren Bowe and rookie Chase Watkins should be key contributors as well.

The 2024 version of the Chippewa Falls LumberJacks will be looking to continue their successful and rich tradition in the CRBL and Amatuer Baseball with a mix of returning veterans and a number of new additions. Wayne Franz the Organizer and former Manager will be moving to the “Front Office” and Nolan Hutzler will be taking over on the field as our Manager. In the past four years the Jacks have participated in two CRBL Play-Offs including a runner-up finish in 2021, four straight WBA appearances and have an overall record of 72-43.

The Jacks finished the 2023 CRBL Season with a 9-11 record with a number of those losses being in heart-breaking fashion as the ball didn’t always bounce our way during the highly competitive schedule that the CRBL brings each week. Our number one goal in 2024 is to get back in the CRBL Playoff mix and hopefully tack on a title and then turn our sights on making a run in the WBA playoffs. There were many team and individual highlights in 2023 and this included hosting a very successful CRBL All-Star Game at Casper Park which saw a large attendance and a great game which was won 6-4 by the South. Appearing in the game for LumberJacks were starters Nolan Hutzler (SS) and Matt Martineau (2nd) as well as Dylan Waters, Dawson Rice, Caleb Gardow, Dawson Mathwig, and Trevor Franz as substitutes. All of them made significant contributions during the game for the North.

Four LumberJacks were honored at the end of the CRBL Season with league awards and they included All League players Nolan Hutzler (SS) and Jack Bowe (OF) along with Jake Varsho (Honorable Mention 2nd Base) and Trevor Franz (Gold Glove). The Chippewa Falls LumberJacks would like to thank all of our sponsors, fans, media, and support staff for all of their efforts in keeping Amateur Baseball alive and well in Chippewa Falls. Our 2024 season looks to be an exciting one and the expectations are high so come on out to historic Gannon Field/Casper Park to watch us in action. Roll Jacks!

Proudly stated, 2024 will stand as the 8th season of play for the Eau Claire Rivermen in the historical Chippewa River Baseball League.

The 2023 campaign was the most successful campaign to date for the Rivermen franchise. With a 12 and 8 mark out of the South Division and an 18 and 15 overall record, the ‘Men set franchise season records for CRBL winning percentage (.600) and overall wins (18), all while remaining in the CRBL playoff hunt to the final pitch of their last league game vs. the Eau Claire Cavaliers. It should be noted that the Rivermen’s winning year was propelled by four extra-inning wins in the CRBL, three of which they trailed going into their last at-bat only to emerge victorious.

2023 CRBL award winners for the Crew in Navy Blue and Grey included centerfielder and speed mercheen Lance Lettner winning his second consecutive CRBL Gold Glove Award, as well as slugging first baseman Blake Loegering garnering his first All-CRBL Honorable Mention Award. Congrats to both on being recognized for their big seasons and the impactful contributions they made to the Rivermen’s memorable year.

Alas, with a new season comes new challenges and new opportunities, as the process of building a competitive roster never stops. With the return of 6 to 7 starters and the addition of several talented players from Eau Claire area, the Men of the River are excited to take the diamond in 2024.

Regardless of wins and losses, the Eau Claire Rivermen are proud to be part of the storied Chippewa River Baseball League. We look forward to seeing you at Fairfax Field, our plush home park with ample seating and convenient parking.

ROSTER: Nathan Ash, Jake Becker, Alan Champion, James Davis, Joe Davis, Wyatt Draves, Joel Effertz, Tyler Gray, Brett Jensen, Jake Lawrence, Lance Lettner, Blake Loegering, Jonah Mueller, Andy Niese, Carson Soukup, Sawyer Sturz, Jesse Urbanek, Luke Rooney

MANAGER: Andy Niese

We would like to thank all of our dedicated fans and community members for the countless volunteer hours, donations, and support over the years.

*Fireworks night will be Wednesday, June 26th @ Merchants Park. Hope to see you all there!

Incredible!!! One word that describes our 2023 season. To be crowned WBA State Champions and bring the title back to Tilden and the CRBL is as rewarding as it gets. We want to first and foremost thank our dedicated fans for all their support throughout the year. We have been a very successful franchise since Day 1, and it all piggy backs off the support that we get year in and year out. To our local sponsors, you are the real MVP’s. As we all know, there are quite a few essentials to make a season happen with the cost of equipment, field rentals, umpires, concession costs, the list goes on and on. Without the local community, none of this would be possible.

We are very optimistic and excited to get the 2024 season under way. We would like to give a special shout out to a couple of longtime Tilden Tigers who have decided to ride off into the sunset.

First and foremost, Alex Ruf (2015-2023). Alex started off his CRBL career playing for the Jim Falls Sturgeons (2012-2014). After some coaxing and a WBA call up offer to play with us in Haugen one year, he was sold on the history and was ready to make a move to the Tilden Tigers. Alex was a lock down 2nd basemen and was one of the fastest guys the league has seen in years. Alex finishes his career at the top of the CRBL for career stolen bases. He was a huge asset on the managerial side of things. He was always willing to put his coaching input in and help make game time decisions. As years progressed, he never skipped a beat to help raise money, clean and stock concession stands, get the field ready for games, and take over any task that was needed. Alex’s most memorable moment as a Tiger was his go ahead home run in Whitehall against Scott Hovell, which ended up being his 2nd HR of the day. This helped the Tigers sweep the Wolves for the first time in many years. We cannot thank him enough for all that he has done for this franchise and wish him nothing but the best.

Second player that we would like to recognize is Carl Krumenauer (2017-2023). Carl was an asset to our franchise the second he graduated high school. You could find Carl mostly on the mound in a lot of our key matchups. Carl pitched in multiple regional tournament games as well as multiple state tournament games. He was a key factor in helping us advance every year. When it came to being a teammate, there weren’t many that were better. Even in games he did not pitch or play, you would find him coaching first base and making sure that he was always ready. Carl’s most memorable game as a Tigers was pitching in a state semifinal game and getting the win against a stacked Viroqua team a few years back. Carl is going to be truly missed and we wish him nothing but the best for his future endeavors with his family.

With that being said, we would like to give you a little sneak peek into the 2024 season. A majority of our team will be returning from last years State Championship team. Our lineup and pitching rotation will be the backbone to our team. Averaging a whopping 9.5 Runs/Game with a team ERA of 2.26, we will look to keep pace with these in the upcoming season.

The CRBL League MVP Tanner Halvorson will be back and ready for another shot at defending that title. He ended the season with a .532 Avg, 22 singles, 13 doubles, and 6 homeruns, added 40 RBIs, with an OPS of 1.520. Not only could he hit, he had some pretty stellar pitching numbers as well. In just 34IP, he struck out 40 guys while allowing 0 ER all year.

PJ Lequia will look to defend his title as the CRBL Utility man. PJ worked his tail off in the offseason in the cage and it sure paid off. With a season ending .484 Avg and a homerun to his name, he will be ready to swing the stick in the upcoming season. On top of hitting, we have another 2-way guy as PJ has been our bonified ace from the beginning. We are all excited to see what this season brings from him.

Our unsung hero and kid that would not like any recognition will be back and ready to defend the title, Jordan Steinmetz. I think it goes without a doubt that he is one of the hardest outs to get in the state. We are extremely excited to have him back with the boys and get the season under way.

Jon Schoch and Cole Zwiefelhofer will round out the crew of Veterans that every team needs. We will rely heavily on their knowledge of the game, as well as their physical attributes that we all know each of them will bring game in and game out.

We hope you all are just as excited as we are for the upcoming season. Once again, our home games will be played at Casper Park, in Chippewa Falls, WI. Here is to a safe and successful season. We look forward to enjoying a few “sodas” with you all shortly. Go Tigers!!!!!

2023 Team Previews / Rosters

The Augusta Athletics, Powered by Stensen Excavating and Transport, are back in the CRBL and the Athletics are excited to bring baseball back to the newly renovated Jan Krueger Diamond at Memorial Field.

The A’s lineup will be filled with some familiar faces and a few ones. The lineup will include members of the former A’s, JJ and Cody Breaker; along with Brice Shimon and Parker Gehrmann who previously suited up for the Merchants. In addition, some recent graduates from Augusta, Fall Creek, Eau Claire and Thorp will fill out the roster. The A’s have also identified some hidden talent that will be joining the team after their high school season concludes.

The Athletics will be managed by Duane Ives and Byron King. Duane was a long-time player for the Athletics during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Bryon has served as the assistant baseball coach for the Augusta High School team for past few years.

The Athletics enter the season with a lot of questions about their pitching staff, position players and hitting…but are excited to work through all those challenges and put a competitive team on the field!

Fans of the Athletics should be excited about the upcoming season and the potential of the new team! The team would like to thank all their sponsors for helping get the team off the ground this season. (Take a second and scroll through our sponsors below). Hope to see you all out at the field this season!

Check us out on Facebook

ROSTER: Chase Stensen-Veenendahl, Brennan Stensen-Veenendahl, JJ Breaker, Cody Breaker, Cole Stensen, Brice Shimon, Parker Gehrmann, Cameron Martzke, Logan Brown, Ryan Grunewald, Matt Vesperman, Jakob Rosemeyer, Ryan Stunkel

Managers: Duane Ives & Byron King

While the Bullfrogs showed an improvement on the field last year, the 2023 Frogs will look to be the surprise of the CRBL.

Beef River returns most of their team from last year, including the team leader in hits Ryan Gray (14). Taylor Rathke/Tim Prince (12), Kyle Maug (11), Ethan Bartels (10) and Wes Boyarski (1 HR) also are returning as leading hitters from last year’s squad. Returning arms include Bartels (49.2 IP), Boyarski (34) and Prince (24.1). The Frogs will be looking to some of the fresh faces to help them get through the season on the mound.

Preston Benedict is one name to watch on the mound as a newcomer for the Frogs and to the CRBL. Derek Bills brings some late game heat, while Dylan Fox will also look to take on some innings as a fresh face.

Will Thibideau will make his full CRBL season debut with the Frogs. Thibideau went 5-13 in 3 games for the Frogs last season, including a double. Carter Johnson will also make his return to the Outfield after playing in just 5 games for the Frogs last season. Storm Standiford comes over to the Frogs after having spent time with the Eau Claire Cavaliers and most recently the Osseo Merchants. The lefty will look to help anchor the lineup at 1B and the DH position. Jackson Faulkner will join the Frogs after spending last season with the Cavaliers. Colin Boyarski will join the squad after his senior season with Altoona. Colin is the younger brother of Wes Boyarski and will look to provide a boost at the plate while manning the hot corner and some games behind the dish.

Hanging up the cleats to be a full-time dad is Brendan McCabe. McCabe brought an electric energy to the squad as a Veteran and went out with a bang, hitting .333 with 4 doubles, while also earning his first All-Star game selection, and Gold Glove award behind the dish. McCabe’s energy and love for the game will be missed this season.
The Bullfrogs are excited to have fans back out to the Ballpark this summer and can’t wait to see what the season holds.

Go Frogs!

ROSTER: Dyllan Bauer, Austin Baker, Ethan Bartels, Preston Benedict, Derek Bills, Colin Boyarski, Wesley Boyarski, Jackson Faulkner, Parker Fischer, Dylan Fox, Ryan Gray, Brandon Jaenke, Carter Johnson, Justin Julson, Reece Lucas, Ethan Maug, Kyle Maug, Daniel Palubicki, Tim Prince, Taylor Rathke, Cody Skabroud, Storm Standiford, Will Thibideau, Brett VanVlack, Austin Zimmerman

MANAGER: Taylor Rathke, Ethan Bartels

The 2022 Woodticks were something. We aren’t sure what, but they were something. An uncharacteristic one win season is something that the 2023 version of the Woodticks will work to turn into what feels like ancient history.

The roster is built like a bread forward sandwich. The top piece of bread is those same faces that have suited up for several seasons. The team will hope the veterans can provide steadiness. The middle of the sandwich includes a couple players that are really coming into their own as they continue to play in the battle tested CRBL. The final part of the roster that makes up the the bottom piece of bread is full of players who are young and ready to show their talents. This group of Ticks have either just joined the team or have played in parts of only a couple seasons. We are excited to see how the season plays on for this group!

We would like to thank all of our local sponsors as well as the players’ families for the time and effort they give to help our season run. We hope to see you head up north to Bloomer for some Woodtick action this season!

The Red Sox are excited to be back for another year of CRBL baseball in 2023! Going into last season the team had a lot of unknowns with several key veterans retiring and many new faces joining the team.  The club didn’t know what to expect with these new players but they exceeded expectations and laid a promising foundation for the upcoming 2023 season.

Returning to the lineup this season on the infield are all star and rookie of the year runner up Chad Kron.  Kron took control of the leadoff spot last year with a 340 batting average and played a great shortstop.  Fresh off his first career All CRBL Award veteran Zac Merritt (362 BA) looks to be an anchor in the middle of the lineup.  Filling out the infield will be Austin Goettl, Parker Lemanski, Jonah Hanson, Sam Feck, Cole Bakkum, and Conner Roth. Second year player Ryan Smith figures to be the primary catcher.

In years past the Sox have been thin in the outfield.  This is not the case anymore.  Ely Johnson will return to centerfield where he batted 467(14 for 30) last season.  Two time gold glove winner and 2022 all star Shawn Sedlacek is slotted to man left field.  Logan Burzynski who made the all star team as a rookie last year, Tony Riley and Bennett Bowe will all be big contributors as well.

Something Cadott has struggled with for years has been pitching depth.  In one years time Cadott has completely revamped their starting rotation.  Second year player Alex Schmidt joined the team in April last year and finished third in the league in innings pitched with 56.  After months of negotiations the Red Sox were able to add two time all star Zack Thiesse. His veteran leadership, playoff experience, and durability will be a major plus for the team. Eau Claire North graduate and current University of Minnesota Duluth pitcher Henry Wilkinson will join the team in June as will Cadott high school standout and southpaw Warren Bowe.  On paper this rotation is the strongest Cadott has had in over a decade.

Red Sox fans should be excited about the potential of their team for the upcoming season!   The team would like to thank all of their fans and their outstanding sponsors.  (Take a second and scroll through our sponsors below). Hope to see you all out at the field this season!  Let’s play ball!

ROSTER: Cole Bakkum, Bennett Bowe, Warren Bowe, Logan Burzynski, Henry Danielson, Rick Danielson, Sam Feck, Austin Goettl, Jonah Hanson, Ely Johnson, Chad Kron, Parker Lemanski , Zac Merritt, Ben Poppe, Tony Riley, Conner Roth, Alex Schmidt, Shawn Sedlacek, Ryan Smith, Zack Thiesse, Henry Wilkinson

MANAGER: Rick Danielson

The Chippewa Falls LumberJacks continue to make their mark as a highly competitive and successful team in the CRBL and Amatuer Baseball in this part of the state. In 2022 we were one of four teams to make the CRBL Playoffs which marked the second year in row we have done so. Our 21-10 overall season record put us over 20 wins for the second consecutive year as well.

2023 will stand as the 7th season of play for the Eau Claire Rivermen in the historical Chippewa River Baseball League.

The season of 2022 saw the Rivermen battle to an 8 and 10 CRBL record and a 7th place finish in the 10-team standings. Overall, the ‘Men finished at 17 and 19. Fair to say the highlight of the year was qualifying for the WBA and playing in the Ellsworth Regional. After losing a tight, 3-0 contest to a tough Hudson River Rats team, the Rivermen captured their first WBA victory in franchise history with a 9-6, 10-inning win vs. the Whittlesey Reds. In the seesaw 10-inning contest, the ‘Men were up 4-2, only to fall behind 9-6 before tying the game 9-all with 3 runs in the top of the 9th. In the deciding 10th frame, EC put up a 3-spot for the final margin of victory. Nonetheless, Hudson emerged from the 3-team pool to make it the WBA finals in Onalaska and Sparta.

2022 CRBL award winners for the Crew in Navy Blue and Grey included Lance Lettner in the outfield (1st All-CRBL award), Andy Niese at designated hitter (13th All-CRBL award), and Tyler Gray as honorable mention pitcher (7th HOM award). The fleet-footed Lettner also garnered his first gold glove recognition for his dynamic play in centerfield.

Alas, with a new season comes renewed hope, and the process of building a competitive roster never stops. With the return of 6 to 7 starters and the addition of several talented high school players from Eau Claire, the Men of the River are excited to take the diamond in 2023.

Regardless of wins and losses, the Eau Claire Rivermen are proud to be part of the storied Chippewa River Baseball League. We look forward to seeing you at Fairfax Field, our plush home park with ample seating and convenient parking.

After years of hoping to see change, the Sturgeons realized a sea change in 2022. Thanks to a stable core bolstered by some key additions, the team followed a 5-15 record in 2021 with a 9-9 finish last year. As a result, they made the WBA tournament for the first time since 2-13 and won a game in it for the first time since 1991. (As a testament to the strength of the CRBL, each of the six teams in the tournament won at least once.)

The Sturgeons enter 2023 with almost everyone back. One key loss will be catcher Kole Smith who, instead of defending the plate for Jim Falls, will be defending the country with the army. Meanwhile, look for new names to pop up in the box scores as the team has brought up some exciting hopefuls from the farm team in Cobban.

Looking at some of the offensive numbers turned in last year, we find rookie Bobby Soran hitting .524 with 11-21, Mitch Howard (.400, 4-10), CRBL Honorable Mention All-League Tristin Hable (.362, 17-47, with 11 R and 7 RBI), Bob Maurer (.292, 7-24), and Justin Toman (.279, 12-43). Throw in dependable CRBL Gold Glove winner and team grand slam specialist Ryan Krumenauer (15-58, .259) who led the team in taters while finishing second in hits and RBI, Evan Dennis (11-42, .262, with 11 BBs), Austin Sykora (10-43), and A. J. Schemenauer the team RBI leader (9), and the Sturgeons have the basis of a strong lineup.

CRBL Rookie-of-the-Year Will Jacobson leads the mound corps, having posted a 4-3 record with a 2.92 ERA and 42 Ks in 52.1 innings. His brilliant 12-inning complete game 5-2 win in the WBAs capped a stellar season. He was backed by Mike Maurer (3-3), Isaac Lindstrom (0.00 ERA in 10.1 IP), and manager Peter Thaler (3.45 ERA in 15.2 IP) among others. Jacobson and Lindstrom also picked up saves.

Jim Falls was well represented at the All-Star game as well, sending Toman, Jacobson, both Maurers, and Hable.

Welcome back to Sturgeon Stadium at Grudem Field for the 59th season of Sturgeon baseball. We’ll have a hot dog and a cold one waiting for you.

ROSTER: Trevor Bowe, Nelson Crumbaker, Evan Dennis, Jake Eslinger, Tristin Hable, Mitch Howard, Will Jacobson, Raven Keyeski, Wyatt Keyeski, Ryan Krumenauer, Isaac Lindstrom, Hunter Martell, Bob Maurer, Mike Maurer, A. The Merchants turned in another great season in 2022 finishing 15-3 in CRBL play. However the season was cut short in the second game of the WBA playoffs. Aaron Hagberg will take over the managerial duties this season as the Merchants try to extend one of the best runs in CRBL history. He will inherit a lineup filled with veteran studs. We would like to extend our thanks to all the great local sponsors. Having a top-notch organization would be difficult to run without your support. Hope to see you at the ballpark. WWMD!

ROSTER: Mason Kostka, Ryan Freitag, Tanner Marsh, Jaxon Kostka, Todd Wienkes, Jackson Johnson, Jimi Zawacki, Joe Zawacki, Logan Boettcher, Jesse Brockman, Alex Byom, Zak Iverson, Luke Eide, Brandt Freitag, Preston Gamroth, Nolan Matson, Scott Hovell, Garrett Koxlien, Gabe Richardson

MANAGER: Aaron Hagberg

The 2022 season came and went in the blink of an eye. The Tilden Tigers had a very memorable year full of many accolades. First by winning the CRBL Championship in consecutive seasons. The second being a runner-up finish in the WBA State Championship game, coming up just short of our ultimate goal. It’s always fun when you end your season in the last game possible, but we are still not satisfied. The third being all the participants that represented the North in the All Star Game. The Tilden Tigers cannot wait to turn the page to the 2023 season.

We will be returning our entire core from our team last year. We are very excited with the additions of Jimmy Schemenauer and Adam Larock. PJ Lequia, Carl Krumenauer, Steph Scatassa, Noah Hanson, and Trevor Olson will be the power behind the rotation this season once again. Our core group of veterans mixed with a group of young fellas will bolster our league leading offense. The Steinmetz Family will once against be taking up many spots in our starting lineup. Our MVP, Jordan Steinmetz, is looking to try and repeat this season. Cole Zwiefelhofer, Jon Schoch, and Alex Ruf will coincide as Captains of this roster and we would not want it any other way.

With the addition of Augusta, we are very excited to be back to the North Format and look at defending that title. We cannot wait to get the season started! None of this would be possible without the amazing support of our fans. We always love to give them a HUGE shoutout. Let’s play ball!!! Go Tigers!

CRBL Preview

Baseball greetings to all our fans, followers, alumni, and friends. It is with great sincerity that we would like to welcome you to another year of competitive amateur baseball within the storied Chippewa River Baseball League. Incredibly, 2023 marks the 95th season of play over 115 years, dating back to the CRBL’s first season of existence in 1908. Very few baseball leagues across the USA – amateur or professional – can substantiate such an existence of length and success. Plainly stated, this is something that anyone associated with the CRBL should take great pride in.

2022 saw the CRBL operate without divisional play for the first time since 1972. From the 10-team arrangement, the Tilden Tigers claimed the best regular season record at 16 and 2, followed by the wildcard teams of Osseo (15-3), the Eau Claire Bears (13-5), and Chippewa Falls (12-6). In the August 6th championship tilt at Casper Park in Chippewa Falls, Tilden beat Osseo 12-5 to capture their league record 39th championship.

The following weekend, seven CRBL teams ventured into the WBA Tournament. From the semi-final fracas of pool play, only Tilden and the Eau Claire Cavaliers survived to the subsequent Finals weekend, with Tilden continuing to roll all the way to the WBA championship game. Unfortunately, the Tigers lost a heart breaker in the title bout to the River Falls Fighting Fish, 3 to 2.

Looking ahead to 2023, the CRBL will welcome back the Augusta Athletics, who played in the league from 1989 to 2019. Also returning will be the tradition of divisional play in the following arrangement:

South Division (6 teams): Augusta Athletics, Beef River Bullfrogs, Eau Claire Bears, Eau Claire Cavaliers, Eau Claire Rivermen, and Osseo Merchants.

North Division (5 teams): Bloomer Fighting Woodticks, Cadott Red Sox, Chippewa Falls Lumberjacks, Jim Falls Sturgeons, and Tilden Tigers.

Old Man Winter put the lumber to us (again) this winter. Yet, like they do every year, the sights and sounds of summer return – whirling baseballs, hot summer nights, freshly cut grass, the crack of the bat………………………..LET’S PLAY BALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interview with President Rick Danielson

Question: How long have you been associated with the CRBL?

Answer: I have played in the CRBL for 17 seasons for 3 different teams. (Stanley Loggers, Jim Falls Sturgeons, and Cadott Red Sox)

Question: What made you want to become the CRBL President?

Answer: When I started going to league meetings as the manager of the Red Sox I realized I kind enjoyed seeing how the CRBL works. When the position opened up after the 2019 season I figured maybe I could help out since I’ve been around the league for a while.  I enjoy working with the other managers and board members trying to make the league run smoothly.

Question: With your Cadott background, how much about the Cadott Red Sox’s history did you understand or grow up with?

Answer: The Red Sox left Cadott in 1995. I was only 10 years old at that point so I really did not know much about CRBL baseball until I came in the league with the Loggers in 2003. It wasn’t until after we restarted the Red Sox in 2011 that I learned how much the team meant to Cadott. Red Sox fans still talk about the great teams they had in the 70s and 80s.

Question: Have you had family members play or manage in the CRBL?

Answer: My grandpa and a couple of his brothers played CRBL ball back in the late 40s and 50s. My cousin Mike was with the Loggers back when I started playing in 2003. He has also played with us in Cadott the last 6 years as well.

Question: What are some of your fondness memories of playing or coaching in the league?

Answer: Overall it’s just a great time meeting new people throughout the league and making new friendships. Whether its teammates, guys your playing against, or the fans that come watch your games. Enjoying a day at the ballpark is just an all around good thing.

Question: What are the biggest changes you seen over your tenure as a player, coach and now president of the league?

Answer: The league has always had some outstanding players. If you page through the record book you see just how many great players we have had over 100 plus years. That being said I truly believe the all around talent level of CRBL players and teams is at an all time high. This is great for the league.

Question:How do you see the CRBL functioning in the future? More teams? Less teams? Rule changes? Etc.?

Answer: Over the last couple of seasons we have went from 12 teams down to 10 teams. Ideally we are able to add a team or two in the future.  Like I said before there is so much talent in the area we definitely have enough talent for a couple more teams.  I think it’s important that we continue to try to get younger kids involved. We need them to keep this league going strong. Overall I think the CRBL is in good shape.
